Miscellany
Am I the last person in civilization to wise up to the 'remember me' button? For years now I've been logging in and out like a wildwoman to ever increasing numbers of blogs, journals, forums, etc, because I thought it might be 'safer' somehow. Well, the last week or so I've just clicked 'remember me' on everything and wow, I'm hopping in and out with complete ease. Go, me! This opens whole vistas of surfing opportunities.

Note to self: it is now 2008. Please to be remembering this on business correspondence before clicking the print button.

It's very cold. I'm not used to this. But I'm still having iced tea with lunch.

I want to make kourabiedes. I don't bake much in December because the stores are mobbed and I try to lay low until it all blows over. But now I'd like to trot out my favorite butter cookie recipe. It calls for a POUND of sweet butter, people, which you beat for 30 minutes. This is a trip with a hand mixer and best done with an assistant.

Is sweet butter like our butter icing?

Oh butter icing is butter mixed with icing sugar till it goes quite creamy

Sweet butter is butter without the salt added! Thanks for pointing this out, I was going to post the recipe later and didn't realize that would be confusing. And yes, I am such an icon dork that I have been surfing around looking for a good Greek themed icon to use with the recipe. (I'm up to 90 icons all ready!)

Well, wait, I'm not sure if it's no salt or just lower salt. But basically the choice is between the regular butter and then sweet butter for pastries and such.

Ah, it's unsalted butter!

And Yikes! for having to mix it for half an hour, that's definitely a hand mixer's job. I love my hand mixer, I couldn't do with out it!

Oh and I totally forget that I can have a load of icons over here so I'm still using the same 4 or 5. Doh!

Get thee some icons, woman!
I just realized there are two different measurements for the sugar in this recipe...I must not have transcribed it right off its original beat-up old index card. I'm going to have to field test it now before I post it. (not that I mind or anything) (plus I might see what happens if I don't go the full thirty minutes on the mixer, seems a tad excessive!)
