Glitch had lost his taste for palace fare, for small delicacies on triangles of toast, for paper-thin pastries, for century old wine.

This was food. Ham sandwiches and lemonade and an enormous slice of cake for dessert with its frosting stuck to the sides of the bowl. The kind of food that made you sleepy, that made you lie back on the blanket and feel the grass buckling beneath it.

“Thanks for bringing me out here,” he murmured, eyes closing, lulled by birds.

“No problem,” Cain drawled calmly. “You looked like you needed to get away for a few hours.”
