1. No one remembers it now, but Palilla was in Slytherin.
2. Even then she was quite the matchmaker. Several of her former classmates are only married to whom they’re married because of her.
3. Whenever one of these couples’ children comes into the shop, now with a date of their own, it always gives her a small thrill of satisfaction.
4. Her family’s always been associated with cats. Her grandmother had Persians, her mother keeps a houseful of Abyssinians. Palilla’s cat is a white English shorthair with blue eyes. Madeleine is deaf, but no one would know it if they weren’t told.
5. Palilla isn’t married herself and she’s glad of it. She was able to decorate her tea salon just the way she wanted, and she’s able to run the place as it suits her.
6. She could tell in five minutes that Chang and Potter weren’t meant for each other.
7. She thinks Cho might have done better with that nice Finch-Fletchley boy.
8. When she was younger, she used to travel the world in search of the best teas. Now everything’s on a familiar delivery schedule, and she hasn’t been anywhere exotic in years.
9. She makes her own pastries for the shop. Many of her little cakes are elaborately decorated, because she enjoys the creative aspect of it. Some artists work in watercolors, her medium is fondant.
10. She knows she’s described as ‘stout’. She prefers ‘sturdy’.
11. No one remembers it now, but Palilla was at the Last Battle at Hogwarts. The call came, and she grabbed her wand and answered it.
12. Said wand is 7 inches, cherry wood, and contains the hair of a black lynx.
13. She wears her own black hair in a bun and has done since she was old enough to learn how to wind it up by herself without looking in a mirror. Sometimes she wears a little netted chignon cover with tiny beads.
14. She thinks that tea is the last bastion of civilization.
15. But every once in a while she goes down to the Three Broomsticks and orders a Firewhiskey.
16. Palilla likes it when the rain runs gently down the glazed glass of her shop windows. The patrons speak a little softer, and the atmosphere gets a little cozier. Not to mention people often order a second dessert to delay leaving.
17. She will not read your tealeaves. There are plenty of other people who are better skilled in divination than she, and she will not fake it for profit.
18. She’s good at charms, though, and frequently uses them to decorate the shop for the seasons. She knows some people think it’s silly, but plenty of others appreciate her flowers that float down from the ceiling and her confetti-tossing cherubs.
19. She has a Muggle friend who runs a used bookshop, and the two of them frequently meet for lunch to exchange novels and tea packets. Her friend has no idea she’s a witch.
20. No one remembers it now, but Palilla was quite a charmer in her youth. She had turned down four marriage proposals by the time she was twenty. Of these, she only regrets one. But only just a little.
