Addicted to Glee and puppies.. @ 09:41 pm

I gave in and we are getting the beagle puppy, from the animal shelter puppy wash. This will raise our household count to me, Teh Rock, cousin, his SO, 3 dogs, a cat and 2 turtles. This is the last animal, I swear. I am also addicted to "Glee", so much so that I now have the soundtrack. What does it say about me that I have never really cared much for Diana Ross (even in her younger days she looked like a female impersonator IMO) but I LOVE the Glee casts version of "You Keep Me Hanging On." And I have listened to "Somebody to Love" 5 times thus far in the last hour. Need Glee icon

Day 6: Slash Chat @ 12:32 pm

Current Mood: working
This is for alisanne, eeyore9990, sassy_cissa, and unbroken_halo (who've been there from the beginning), and everyone who's ever spent time with us. I want to let you all know how much the chats and all the word wars have meant to me over the last few (is it almost three now??) years. I was initially ecstatic to find a group of like-minded, slash-inclined geeks with whom I could talk on a regular basis, OMG! It was amazing how physical distance never seemed to matter and I felt like you all were right there in the room with me at times. Giving and receiving so much feedback and encouragement helped my writing to improve more than I can possibly comprehend. It's been great watching all of us change and grow as writers and artists. If you don't know what the heck this is all about, the explanation is here.

RIP, Mr. Godric Gryffindor @ 09:44 am
leviathan0999:
A few weeks ago, "Gryffie," more formally known as "Mr. Godric Gryffindor," known by a previous human as "Tigger," a beautiful, sweet-natured, social, affectionate cat, seen above as he slept on my hip in the wee hours of February 25th, 1998, had a change in behavior, hiding in corners and dark places. I gave him a few days to get over it, then made it my business to haul him out and love on him, and encourage him to re-join the family. At first, it worked. The week before last, however, he began acting listless and torpid, and, the Saturday before last, I became concerned enough to want to take him to the vet. The vet, however, was not there, and would not be until Monday. By that Monday morning, I feared he would not make it through the day, and he was nearly dead before I could get him in to the Vet's office. The next day, having had subcutaneous fluids and food, he seemed happier and peppier, and was sent home. "But wait," I asked. "What caused this? Did the blood work show anything?" Well, no, it hadn't, and the vet had no idea, but assumed that Gryffie had ingested some sort of poison, or that I had been inept in applying anti-flea drops, and poisoned him. I knew that wasn't the case, and knew that it was not an environmental poison -- my other three cats, after all, had no problems -- but there was no way of knowing what the problem was. That night, lying in bed between my wife and me, he had a seizure, and, come the morn, it was back to the Vet for Mr. Gryffie. He was given Phenobarbital, and an antibiotic, and by Sunday, seeming much the better, was sent home again. Sunday night, another seizure, Monday morning, a return to the vet. More Phenobarbital, a seizure-free night, more phenobarbital, another seizure in the night, and the Vet was now fairly confident that it would just be a matter of adjusting dosages, and that Gryffie would soon be home and happy. I spoke with the vet at approximately 6:00 last evening, and all was well. One more night to make sure the dosages were working, and he'd be coming home, probably, today. This morning at 8:40 AM, ten minutes after his office had opened, the Vet called me to tell me that Gryffie had passed away overnight. I can't begin to express how I loved that cat, nor how heartbroken I am to know he'll never again be coming home to me, never again leap onto me as I try to settle in for bed, before I'm quite in position to go to sleep. Rest Well, Gryffie. I will always love and miss you.

I am utterly disappointed in all of you. Well. All but thirteen of you! Thirteen is a good number, but fifteen beats it. Why is that significant? Because fifteen of you voted to allow lilyseyes to beat me in my utterly fair and balanced poll. But fear not, my brave thirteen! leela_cat wrote us a fic ANYWAY! Because we are obviously awesome. *nod nod* Deathfic! Yay!!! Go forth, ye fabulous ones, and read There Had Been a Plan.

Fic: Immovable Unspeakable meets Irresistible Wizard @ 07:48 pm
alisanne:
Current Mood: calm
Since the HD Career Fair is over, this is my repost of my fic. It's posted at DW because it's slightly too big for IJ. Title: Immovable Unspeakable meets Irresistible Hit Wizard Author: alisanneChallenge: Written for the 2009 hd_career_fair. Rating: NC-17 Pairing(s): Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy, Percy Weasley/Hermione Granger (implied), Blaise Zabini/Luna Lovegood (implied) Summary: Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy are just average, ordinary wizards working in dull positions at the Ministry and leading average, ordinary lives. Or, at least, that's what they'd like everyone -- including each other -- to believe. Warnings: AU Word Count: ~10,800 Author's Notes: Inspired by an irresistible prompt from orpheus_samhain, who requested Draco as a MoM appointed hitman, very sikrit, Minister wouldn't like the public to know that from time to time he orders a murder; Harry is an Unspeakable. Somehow their paths cross during one of Draco's assignments, that so happens to be one of Harry's, only he's expected to achieve the opposite effect. If they know each other outside their work is a bonus. Requested additions: a knife, hood, night, champagne. Orpheus, I hope this is what you imagined. Thank you to the hd_career_fair mods for hosting this fest and to eeyore9990 and sevfan, without whom this story would have made much less sense. Recognizable content belongs to JKR, with some plot elements borrowed from the hilarious movie, Mr and Mrs Smith. Immovable Unspeakable meets Irresistible Hit Wizard

... are up!Thanks to the mods, who did a FABULOUS job making this fest a lot of fun. I am still behind in my reading (recs are appreciated). This means, however, that my guessing post is now closed, and that I can claim the fic I wrote for the fest, which was Immovable Unspeakable Meets Irresistible Hit Wizard. *g* I'll be reposting it later. Unfortunately, no one correctly guessed which fic I wrote, so no one can claim a drabble (I suppose I should be relieved that veridian_dair's magic doesn't extent to H/D, hm?). There is still a chance to claim a drabble or ficlet, though. ownficfest reveals are Saturday, and I have a guessing post up HERE.

Wow, this is a hard one. Have you ever felt something about someone (their presence or aura, something they exude, a way you feel around them) that you can't quite figure out how to express in words? I have that with you. I sense something powerful about you that I can't begin to describe. You're intelligent, diverse, strong, passionate, and genuinely interesting. You have a lot of love to give. Your writing is wonderfully vivid with complex layers of feeling. I'm truly fortunate to have been able to spend time with you, and I look forward to seeing you again at some point. If you don't know what the heck this is all about, the explanation is here.

eeyore9990:
I had awesome plans to go to bed with hubby and do the snuggly thing and just forget about my current fic for a while. And then the need to write propelled me out of bed (hubby was already asleep, so it's not like I interrupted anything *coughs*). So here I sit. Like a lump on a log. Which means, of course, that it's time again for another round of fic bitching! *crowd goes wild* Character B... oh, Character B. Why must you intimidate me so? Also, what's with the personality disorder you seem to have? Don't you know I want to make you happy in the pants? Cuz I do. I want to make you so happy in the pants that you come back for more (yes, pun is totally intended). So why, then, aren't you cooperating? Character A? I'm not sure exactly where you're going with this, but it's unlike you to be reticent. So maybe just cut it out and jump Character B's bones? I realize you're trying to be a better person or whatever, but come ON, man. This fic is due in just over a week and we are at a stand still. Characters C through infinity? Rock on with your bad selves. I love you all. Seriously. Me? Please stop with the Britglish in this fic. It's not only not necessary but also... you're doing it wrong! A whopping 369 words so far today. Which is kinda cool in the fact that any number with 69 in it is obviously shooting for porn, but less cool in the "I still have a lot to write" way. So come on, self. Characters. We have an hour and a half. Let's get this thing going!

The Snarry Last Drabble Writer Standing competition results for week 7 have been announced and the winner is the inimitable joanwilder, who wrote the story 'Stating the Obvious'. Congratulations, my dear! As I'm sure I don't need to tell anyone, the prescient veridian_dair has yet again successfully guessed which story was mine. *shakes head* This time she was joined by prayer_at_night, who also successfully picked mine out of the line up. Thus, they are both entitled to pick a prompt for a Snarry drabble. Just let me know what you'd like to see, ladies! And, as I am by some miracle still in the competition, I guess I'd better head off to write my next fic for the community. ;) Edit: Oh, and for anyone who still wants to try their hand at guessing which fic was mine in a fest, you have more opportunities to win drabbles by guessing here or here. *g*
